Northamptonshire County Council launched it’s new ‘Race To The Top’ strategy in which they have invested £1 million in a bid to raise educational achievement to become one of the best performing local authorities for education by 2020.
Geddington School is one of the successful applicants for funding and we have been awarded £25k to develop a project called ‘Geddington University’.
The University is open everyday from 3.15pm-5.15m and KS2 students can attend and participate in subjects that support the curriculum but are delivered by a range of talented volunteers and specialist professionals in intensive, target based, practical sessions. This encourages children to stretch themselves, work harder and aspire to continually improve.
There are opportunities to participate in sports activities or homework club followed by a nutritious snack and finally the business led activities each evening.
Lots of businesses and volunteers are already planning their sessions, including Kettering Buccleuch Academy, Love food, Barclays, Northamptonshire Fire Brigade, Northamptonshire University and The Royal and Derngate.
